On Page Optimisation SOP
1) Create the page and set the basics
- Add New page/post in WordPress.
- Paste in (or write) your content.
- Set the URL slug:
- Keep it short.
- Include the target term
- Avoid fillers like “and”, “the”, “of” unless needed for readability.
2) Set the target term in Rank Math (before you tweak anything)
- Scroll to the bottom of the page, upload screen, where you will find the Rank Math focus keyword field
- Add your Focus Keyword (your target term).
- Check the Analytics/SEO score area so you can see what Rank Math wants as you optimise.
3) Optimise your headings (structure first)
- H1
- Make sure there’s only one H1.
- Include the target term in the H1
- H2
- Ensure at least one H2 includes the target term
- Use other H2s to logically break up the page (services, benefits, FAQs, steps, etc.).
Quick check:
- Target term in H1
- Target term in at least one H2
4) Optimise the body content (Rank + readability)
- Add the target term within the first 100 words (naturally).
- Include the target term a few times across the page, but do not force it.
- Add relevant terms (synonyms / supporting phrases) where it makes sense.
- Make sure the page matches intent:
- Service page = clear offer, proof, process, CTA
- Blog post = answer fully, include examples, steps, visuals
Quick check:
- Target term appears early
- Used naturally in the body
5) Set SEO title & meta description (Rank Math)
In Rank Math → Edit Snippet:
Meta title
- Include the target term
- Keep it roughly 50–60 characters
- Make it click-worthy (benefit + intent)
Meta description

- Keep it roughly 150–160 characters
- Explain the value + include a soft CTA
Quick check:

In Rank Math → Schema:
- Choose the correct schema type:
- Blog post → Article / Blog Posting
- Service page → Service
- Add/confirm required fields are filled accurately (name, description, provider, etc.).
- If you include FAQs on the page, add FAQ schema (only if the FAQ content is visible on-page).

- Rename the file before upload (if you can):
- target-term-example.jpg (not keyword spammy, just descriptive)
- Add alt text:
- Describe the image.
- If appropriate, include the target term once where natural.
Quick check:
- Every image has alt text with target term
8) Internal links (fast win)
- Add internal links to relevant pages.
- Use descriptive anchor text (not “click here”).
- If this new page is important, add a link to it from:
- A related high-traffic page, and/or
- A hub/service overview page
Quick check:
- Internal links added
